Water-Lily Foundation Contributes to Youth-Led Climate Policy at MTDP Workshop in Tamale

Tamale, Northern Region | March 2025

Water-Lily Foundation took an active role in shaping Ghana’s climate-resilient future by participating in the Regional Workshop on the Medium-Term Development Plan (MTDP), hosted in Tamale. This groundbreaking workshop kicked off a national consultation series designed to engage young people in climate-resilient development planning across the country.

Representing the Foundation were Dogoli Fredrick, Volunteer & Membership Coordinator, and Aminu Gafaru, Operations & Partnership Officer. Their attendance not only amplified the voices of youth from northern Ghana but also reaffirmed the Foundation’s strategic commitment to climate advocacy and sustainable development.

Organized by Youth Climate Council Ghana in collaboration with UNICEF Ghana, the National Development Planning Commission (NDPC), and the Ministry of Local Government, the workshop focused on pressing issues including:

1. Climate risks and vulnerability assessments
2. Local government planning systems and policy structures
3. Thematic profiling of the Northern Region, covering WASH, biodiversity, gender inclusion, vegetation management, and youth unemployment

One of the workshop’s key achievements was the co-creation of a youth-led position paper—a powerful document detailing the region’s climate challenges and offering innovative, actionable policy solutions. This youth-authored submission will directly feed into Ghana’s upcoming Medium-Term Development Plan, ensuring young voices are embedded in national climate strategy.

Participants also benefited from expert guidance provided by officials from NDPC and other institutions, gaining deeper understanding of participatory policy processes and community-driven resilience frameworks.

The Water-Lily Foundation is proud to have contributed to this transformative space and remains committed to nurturing youth leadership in climate action. As Ghana moves forward with sustainable development goals, the Foundation looks forward to continued partnerships that empower young people to lead the charge.
