On World Menstrual Hygiene Day, the Water-Lily Foundation in collaboration with NeedBe Foundation and CAMFED Ghana organised a Menstrual Hygiene Festival for 160 adolescent girls from 8 Junior High Schools, including:
1. Yoo R/C JHS
2. Yoo Naa JHS
3. Savelugu Experimental JHS
4. Savelugu M/A Block “A” JHS
5. Wataniya JHS
6. Girls Model JHS
7. Savelugu M/A Block “B” JHS
8. Savelugu Islamic JHS
The event included educational talks, creative arts sessions (drawing & colouring), and interactive menstrual health demonstrations. Students were grouped and taught how to use reusable cloth pads and menstrual cups.
At the end, 400 reusable menstrual cloth pads were distributed (each girl received 3). A selected number also received menstrual cups, which can last up to 10 years. This project reduced stigma, empowered girls, and helped lower the financial burden on families.
Date of Implementation: 28th May 2022
Project Location: Savelugu District (8 Junior High Schools)
